The
Morongo Basin Coalition for Adult Literacy, Inc.,
provides free confidential, one-on-one tutoring
to illiterate adults over eighteen who need help
with reading, writing, and/or mathematics in order
to achieve their potential and to function in their
home, workplace, and community.
The
MBCAL is a partner with
San Bernardino County Library in bringing literacy
services to the Morongo Basin. Two literacy sites
are available, one at the Yucca Valley Branch Library
and one at the Twentynine Palms Branch Library.
Each site has a Literacy Specialist who offers tutor
training, assesses incoming students to see what
their needs are, and matches a tutor with a student.
The
MBCAL is a United Way Agency, a recipient of Elsinore
Machris Gilliland and Wal-Mart Foundation grants,
and is affiliated with ProLiteracy America.
The
MBCAL is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 California Corporation
