The
Morongo Basin Coalition for Adult Literacy, Inc.,
provides free confidential, one-on-one tutoring
to illiterate adults over eighteen who need help
with reading, writing, and/or mathematics in order
to achieve their potential and to function in their
home, workplace, and community.
The
entire Morongo Basin is served the Morongo Basin
Coalition for Adult Literacy. The MBCAL is a partner
with
San Bernardino County Library in bringing literacy
services to the Morongo Basin.
Two
literacy sites are available, one at the Yucca Valley
Branch Library and one at the Twentynine Palms Branch
Library. Each site has a Literacy Specialist who
offers tutor training, assesses incoming students
to see what their needs are, and matches a tutor
with a student. The
Coalition office is in the Twentynine Palms Branch
Library.
Board
meetings are held at 7:00 a.m., the 4th Tuesday
of the month, except December, at the Copper Mountain
Community College Library.
The
MBCAL is a United Way Agency, a recipient of Elsinore
Machris Gilliland and Wal-Mart Foundation grants,
and is affiliated with ProLiteracy America.
